Nintendo News: 30.05.2016 - 03.06.2016

Hello and Welcome to Dillians Nintendo News Recap.

Yeah... not much going on this week, except for the newest Pokemon trailer and Splatoons Anniversary. Still it was a good week to be a Nintendo fan... just not release wise.

New Releases:

  • Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble – Virtual Console (New Nintendo 3DS)
  • Kick & Fennick – Wii-U Download-Software

Well two games is still better than no games, am I right? But let's not kid ourselves. This week is absolutely catastrophal. Donkey Kong Country 3 is a great game, but it's already on the Wii-U (remind me why a Virtual Console, which spans across all Nintendo Consoles is still not a thing) and Kick & Fennick, doesn't look to interesting. I'm not a huge fan of it's artstyle. Well let's hope that it will get better.

Splatoon:

One year ago Splatoon launche worldwide and took it by Storm. Especially in Japan the game was a gigantic hit. 4,27 Million sales worldwide are a testament to Nintendos brand power and hopefully the Kidsquids will stay with us for a long time. Of course Nintendo celebrated Splatoons first birthday with lot's of announcements. First up we got confirmation that a second wave of new weapons is headed to the game.

But that is not all. On the 7th of July Japan will also be graced by a new Splatoon Bundle, containing a Wii-U, the game and both Squid Sister Amiibos. This will cost 37.000 Yen, which is roughly 300€. Let's hope this bundle will also come to the rest of the world.

The next announcements are also Japan specific, but it wouldn't surprise me if some of them also made it to the West.

Splatoon Live in Makuhari – A Squid Sisters Live Album containing songs from their two live concerts, as well as demo versions of new songs. It will also contain a booklet and a cover, which was designed by the Games designers themselves. It releases on 13th of July and costs 2.700 Yen (~22€).

New Merchandise – T-Shirts, hats and more were also announced to release in July.

Tower Records – The Movie and Music retailer put out a teaser for a mysterious Splatoon Event on the 24th of June.

Of course the Splatoon anniversary was also celebrated by Fans all over the world. I hope you all still enjoy the game, because I definitely do.

We also got a date for the next Splatoon Update, which contains the new weapons and also some Arena adjustments. It will release on the 8th of June and is mandatory for future online play. The size of the Update is 768 MB so make sure you have enough room.

Also the third live concert of the Squid Sisters was announced. And for the first time the two idols will travel outside of Japan. The concert will take place on the 8th of July at the Japan Expo in Paris.

Nintendo:

When Nintendo announced that this year Zelda U will be the only playable game at e3 many fans were upset. And rightfully so. When they also announced that there won't be a Digital Event and only a Nintendo Treehouse Livestream it didn't help to calm the masses. Well e3 is less than two weeks away and we got some information about the Live Stream and Nintendos presence at the show floor. It still is not stellar, but better than feared.

On Tuesday the Stream starts at 9.am PT with a first look at the new Pokemon Editions Sun and Moon. After that we'll finally get the unveiling of the newest Zelda adventure. The stream will be completed with developer commentary and an extended look a the Show floor.
On Wednesday everything starts at 10.am PT with a special Pokemon Go Q&A Sessions and then continue with gameplay of upcoming titles like Tokyo Mirage Sessions#FE, Monster Hunter Generations, Dragon Quest VII and others.

Also Nintendo has booked the same space on the show floor as in previous years, so nobody should worry about playing the new Zelda. There will be more than enough space.

The Legend of Zelda:

While there is no shortcoming of Zelda Merchandise there can never be enough, and after an official Zelda Monopoly it was only a matter of time till the series got another special version of a well known board game. This time it's chess and it looks quite good to be honest. The set contains:

Heroes:
  • Link (King)
  • Zelda (Queen)
  • Impa (Bishops)
  • Epona (Knights)
  • Darunia (Rooks)
  • Navi (Pawns)

Villains:
  • Ganon (King)
  • Twinrova (Queen)
  • Iron Knuckle (Bishops)
  • Phantom (Knights)
  • Armos (Rooks)
  • Dekunut (Pawns)

The edition is described as collectors item so the price may be a little high.

Mario Maker:

Well that was certainly unexpected.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions#FE:

For once let's not concentrate on the censorship issue and just take a look at the newest Tokyo Mirage Sessions#FE trailer, which shows us the darker side of the colorful pop idol world this title is portraying. Of course I'm not talking about real life issue like possible exploitation of young talents, but demons. Lots and lots of demons. Here is the story trailer:

Pokemon:

This weeks Pokemon news are of course headlined by the newest trailer of Pokemon Sun and Moon, which gave us our first look at the new Alola region and introduced some characters. You can check out my Trailer Watch here: http://dilliansthoughthub.blogspot.co.at/2016/06/trailer-watch-explore-alola-region-in.html
Or just scroll down.

Of course this wasn't everything and we also got some more news.
First up is the announcement that Pokemon Series Main Producer Junchi Masuda will be present at the Japan Expo on Paris and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise together with it's fans.

Next up is the information that the mythical Pokemon Manaphy can now be downloaded via the Nintendo Network in Pokemon X/Y and OR/AS. Just head to the main menu, select Mystery Gift then receive Gift and get via Internet. Your new Manaphy then can be collected in game in the next Pokemon Center.

And lastly we have a curios case from Hong Kong, where the name change of several Pokemon has sparked some unrest. Hong Kong and mainland China use different versions of Chinese and because of that the names of Pokemon and even the word Pokemon are written differently.
Now Nintendo has announced that with the start of Pokemon Sun and Moon China, Taiwan and Hong Kong will share the same names and writing. Because of that several Hong Kong based Pokemon fans gathered before the Japanese embassy to protest. They fear that this is another step by the government in Peking to ban Cantonese Chinese, which is spoken in Hong Kong.
So a well meant idea to unify the names in all of China has backfired.

Kirby:

Finally let us wrap up this week with two new videos of our good friend Kirby. First off we have a new (very awesome) trailer and then we can join Kit and Krysta in an all new Nintendo Minute. Enjoy.

And that was it for this week. Enjoy your games and enjoy the weekend.

And as always

thanks for reading
