Lost & Found: Doomed since 1989

Hello and Welcome to todays episode of Lost & Found.

As we Nintendo Fans all know our favorite gaming company is doomed and will go out of business soon. I know many of you probably can't hear that Nintendo needs to go third party, or needs to drop out of the console business, but this isn't anything new. In fact as early as 1989 people were calling for the end of Nintendo.

Some things truly never change and it is fun to see how Nintendo has survived over the years, while everyone around them called for their end. But still here we are in 2017, 25 years after the ''end'' of Nintendo and the company is still going strong. So I wouldn't count on them going anywhere soon. Here's to the next 25 years of Nintendo is doomed articles.

Lost & Found: There's no such thing as a Nintendo

Hello and Welcome to todays episode of Lost & Found.

Today we take another trip down memory lane with an interesting poster Nintendo of America produced in the early Nineties. And with early Nineties I mean 1990. During the last glory days of NES and with the SNES just around the corner Nintendo was the dominating force in the video game industry. And so for parents, who didn't know any better, every video game console was a Nintendo.
I'm sure your parents made the same mistake at least one. I know mine did. Even nowadays Nintendo is still the synonym for consoles. It still happens that a mother wants to buy the new game for her sons ''Nintendo'' and then it turns out to be a PlayStation 4.
Well without further ado here is the poster:

It's an amusing look into past and a funny remainder that even though many things change, some still stay the same. And now if you excuse me, I'm going to play Doom on my Nintendo.

Lost & Found: Diddy Kong Racing Adventure

Hello and Welcome to todays episode of Lost & Found.

Todays episode is brought to you by the footage of a long lost game, which never saw the light of day. After their huge successes on the N64 and before their acquisition by Microsoft Rare was already working on several titles for the Nintendo GameCube. One of those games was the successor to the critically acclaimed Diddy Kong Racing.
Over the years information surfaced about what the game was all about, but now I can present you with a video from an early build of the game. It looks rough, understandably, but the developers vision for a open world style racing game utilizing animals as vehicles is clearly visible.
It's a nice reminder of what has never been. I hope you'll enjoy it and mourn it a little bit.

Lost & Found: Nintendo Switch Anime Opening

Hello and Welcome to todays episode of Lost & Found.

As a child of the 90s I grew up watching lots of cartoons. And while todays offering in that regard is quite excellent, it can't really capture the corniness of those days. Especially the Intros of older cartoon series are always a treat.
And that's why todays Lost and Found is a perfect recreation of those kind of Intros, but with an unexpected main character. Check it out.

If you enjoyed the video as much as I did, don't forget to check out the creators channel and maybe consider giving them a sub.

Lost & Found: The Night of Horror

Hello and Welcome to todays episode of Lost & Found.

With Halloween just around the corner todays episode is dedicated to Freddy, Jason and all the other Horror greats. Why do you ask? And why on a Nintendo focused Blog? Well it's simple. They all appeared in an infamous comic from the German Club Nintendo magazine.

It's hard to think something like that would be possible in a official Nintendo fan magazine. Not only can you see Wario scheming with Satan. (Yes he is called Abigor, but come on.) But there is also a Zombie Peach and Link, Mario and Kirby transforming into Horror Versions of themselves. My favorite definitely is Pinhead Kirby.

This comic is a great blast from the past. Made during a period where Nintendo, especially Nintendo Germany, was far more lenient with their policy and, in my opinion, also more charmful. Another example for this was the translation of Links Awakening.

Now if you're interested in this quite unique and a little bit cringy comic you can check out a completely translated version here. It's definitely worth it.

Lost & Found: Links Awakening 64

Hello and Welcome to todays episode of Lost & Found.

It's about a fan project again. But hey if it's good there is no reason to give it the spotlight. Even if it's just on my blog. And this fan project definitely deserves it.
As we know there are thousands of talented fans out there, which create great art, music and even games inspired by Nintendos countless classics. And today I wanted to show you one of those projects, I am most excited about. As some of you may know Links Awakening was my first Zelda and is still one of my all time favorite games. The unique humor and setting combined with the timeless Zelda gameplay created a classic that I hold near and dear to my heart. So you probably can guess my excitement, when I heard that a fan is working on a mod, which recreates the game in the engine of Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask. This mod, called Links Awakening 64, finally got a first trailer several days ago and I just had to share it with you guys. So I hope you're as excited as I am for this project and are looking forward to it.

Also the creator of Links Awakening 64, Ty Anderson, released a video detailing the process of recreating the Coholint Library for the game. It's a great look at how much work creating a video game is, and it made me appreciate the work of those countless talented fan creators even more.

I hope you enjoyed todays episode of Lost and Found.

Lost & Found: Zelda CDI HD

Hello and Welcome to todays episode of Lost & Found.

This week it's only a quick episode about a cool video I found online. Some of you may know the Zelda CDI games and those of you who don't... you're very very lucky.
These games are infamous for their lack of quality and rightfully so. To put it simply they are horrible. And now some fan on Youtube has recreated the cut scenes of these games as HD remakes.
It's just as horrible as everyone expected.

If you ''liked'' the video you can check out the creators channel here. ''Enjoy.''

Lost&Found: Super Mario 64: Last Impact

Hello and Welcome to todays episode of Lost & Found.

Today I have another fanwork for you. And this time we go even further into the past than last time. 20 years have passed since the release of the groundbreaking Super Mario 64. And now after 20 years we get a second part. Well it's not from Nintendo and it's ''only'' a fan modification, but judging from the trailer and the time I've already spent with the game it's a good successor. I definitely have fun playing it.

The game offers new enemies, power-ups, levels and 130 stars to collect. Also Yoshi is playable this time and doesn't just hang around on the rooftop.
All in all it's another showing what fans can accomplish and it should make the creators of the original proud, but I don't think Nintendo shares my vision. So you better grab the game as long as it's available.

Download

And here is the release trailer for the mod, giving you a good overview about what you can expect from the game.

Lost&Found: Super Mario Green Star Groove

Hello and Welcome to todays episode of Lost & Found.

In the last couple of weeks Nintendo and its treatment of Fanworks got a lot of coverage. And while I understand why Nintendo does everything possible to protect their IPs, I think this situation could be handled much better. I also think that these great Fan Projects, in which the creators put their heart and soul, deserve attention.

That is why I want to show you a very promising fan game, because simply calling it a fan hack wouldn't do it justice. Following the great Newer Super Mario Bros., which even got in my Top 5 Nintendo Fan Games, Super Mario Green Star Groove sets out to do the same as it's predecessor. Be a full fledged Mario adventure.

And if you have played Newer Super Mario Bros. you surely are as exited as I am. Anyways here is the trailer for you to enjoy and maybe get excited. It definitely looks great.

Lost&Found: Howard and Nester Comics Archive

Hello and Welcome to todays episode of Lost & Found. Many of you probably have heard the drama surrounding the upload of all Nintendo Power issues and the take down notice by Nintendo which followed. While this is truly regrettable, because this was a wonderfully nostalgic window into the gaming past, today I have a small consolation for you.

While it's not the whole magazine some good managed to upload all of the Howard & Nester strips from the magazines. Now if you don't know what these strips were about then here is a shamelessly copy&pasted explanation from the side itself.

Anyone who has read Nintendo Power since its beginning has, obviously, at least glanced at the little comic strips in a couple of pages of the magazine called "Howard & Nester", which chronicled the adventures of bowtie-wearing Howard Philips (who was an actual employee of Nintendo and president of the Nintendo Fun Club at the time) and a stubborn redheaded teen named Nester. Together, the two ventured into the worlds of various NES games, gave us a couple of thinly-veiled legitimate tips, and always provided a little bit of humor for us all.
In Volume 25 of Nintendo Power, Howard left the magazine to pursue other goals (JVC?! I'll bet that worked out well), and left Nester to star in a series of comics of his own. But a few years after, all traces of Nester (and Howard) vanished, and left the magazine to wilt away.

Take a look, have some laughs and return to a time when gaming was much much simpler. I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as much as I did.

Lost & Found: The ''Real'' Legend of Zelda

Hello and Welcome to todays episode of Lost & Found. And what do you know. Today I have another video to show you. It's kind of a classic and was (sadly) never completed so now, after seeing it, you'll share my pain.

A great Parody of the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and if you have the time I'm sure it'll get some laughs out of you. So enjoy todays treat and see you soon.

Lost & Found: Nintendo Promotional Videos

Hello and welcome to this new Friday regular. Here I'll talk about different interesting Nintendo related things. It can range from Merchandise, TV-Series or just plain interesting and weird stuff. I hope you all enjoy this new content.

So let's start today with two quite interesting and very, very 90s videos. These little gems were handed to Retailers in in holidy 1993 and 1994 to prepare them for selling Nintendo products. It's a nice flashback into easier times, when such things were still regularly used. And it couldn't get any more 90s even if they tried. It's a nice reminder on what made this era great and also absolutely cringe worthy.

That's that for today. I know it was a pretty short first Lost and Found, but I'll head out to Aninite in Vienna for the weekend so I'm in quite a hurry, but if you have any thoughts or suggestions about the format let me know in the comments.
